Celebrating Somerset County History Docents

Winter/Spring 2025 Cohort | Somerset County Docent Training Program

Docent Community Day was filled with many activities to celebrate new docents’ transition to historic sites in Somerset County during Learning & Service. Read your notes of appreciation and shout outs below:

  • Somerset County Docents ROCK!

  • It was great to be surrounded by fellow history lovers. I can’t wait to get matched to a house, and be a part of the docents on-site.

  • Loved the Five Generals Bus Tour. Thank you, Heritage Trail Association!

  • What an amazing opportunity to learn about the history in our own backyard. Thanks, Mike from the Van Veghten House

  • This has been a life changing program. I can’t wait to do more!

  • Paul, thanks for teaching me about Middlebrook. I never knew it was actually a real place.

  • This was a thoughtful and professional program. Kudos.

  • Paula was funny and welcoming. She was a speaker when I felt most intimidated about becoming a docent. Her positivity was right on time!

  • It was great making new friends

  • Thank you to the county and our trainers and facilitators. All of the staff and presenters were welcoming. Looking forward to getting to work!

  • I loved getting to learn through objects and artifacts. Thank you, Olinda from the Van Veghten House

  • Thank you for all the fun activities at the houses and during training.

  • The Staats House was so welcoming! I loved the program

  • It was so interesting to learn about all that docents do — from tours to preservation support to interpretation — I can’t wait to keep learning!

  • Private Moore, you inspired me! I’ll see you around the Five Generals Houses.

  • I enjoyed learning. We will all be excellent docents, thanks to this program : )
