How can historic sites work together to train and retain volunteer docents?
Somerset County Docent Training Program
Ahali partnered with the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission and five historic sites to design and pilot New Jersey’s first-of-its-kind collaborative training program, training 32 volunteers and matching 91% to long-term docent roles at historic sites across the county. One year later, 86% of those docents are still serving. We produced a full ecosystem of resources, uniting sites around a single framework built for longevity: implementation guides for program coordinators and site-based trainers, three participant toolkits, a 70-card deck of flashcards, digital program dashboards for participants and trainers, an original media library on a dedicated YouTube channel, and a complete training curriculum.
